The Turkish MoD activity report included that the serial modernisation of F-16 fighters in the Turkish Air Force inventory will be done by the end of 2026.
The 2025 activity report from the MoD, without disclosing the number of F-16 fighters undergoing ÖZGÜR modernisation, stated that the modernisation and structural refurbishment will be completed by the end of 2026.
It is understood that the ÖZGÜR modernisation in the report refers to the first stage that involves the overhaul of electronics, software, and structural components to allow the use of existing or future Turkish munitions and extend the service life.
On the other hand, MURAD 100-A AESA radar, tests of which are ongoing onboard three different platforms (F-16 ÖZGÜR itself, KIZILELMA unmanned fighter, and AKINCI UCAV), is expected to be introduced later as a significant capability upgrade.
Future Turkish munitions such as GÖKHAN ramjet-powered BVRAAM, AKBABA anti-radiation missile, and GEZGİN cruise missile will be available to F-16 ÖZGÜR fighters. Additionally, ROKETSAN’s GÖKBORA BVRAAM will be qualified for F-16s in 2031.
