FN Tests Combined Muzzle Device on MTL-30 Grenade Launcher TurDef

FN shared the test footage of the MF30MD suppressor/muzzle brake on its magazine-fed MTL-30 30 mm grenade launcher being developed for the PGS programme.

Continuing the development on the MTL-30 submission for the US Army’s Precision Grenadier System (PGS) programme, FN has tested the MF30MD muzzle device that combines suppressor, muzzle brake, and flash hider functions in one brick-like package onboard the 30 mm grenade launcher.

MF30MD is a member of the MFMD muzzle device family developed by Strategic Sciences, which is also working on 6.8x51 mm MFMD for the M7 battle rifle and M250 light machine gun being produced by SIG within the NGSW programme.

According to Strategic Sciences, MFMD provides up to 60 per cent faster follow-up shots with muzzle braking function and sub-140 dB noise during firing.

This coupling of capabilities is thanks to the rather extraordinary layout of MFMD. The first redirects the gas exhaust forward through a long exit instead of sideways or vertically for muzzle braking. At the same time, the large overall volume of the suppressor provides noise reduction in a stubbier package.
