France Acquires Eight NH90 SF Helicopters

The French Defence Procurement Agency (Direction Générale de l'Armement/DGA) has approved the acquisition of eight NH90 TTH helicopters. According to the DGA, the eight new helicopters will be named NH90 SF (Special Forces) and are expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2029. Following this decision, the NATO Helicopter Management Agency (NAHEMA) signed a procurement contract with NHIndustries, a joint venture of Airbus Helicopters, Leonardo and Fokker.

This acquisition is in line with the objectives of the Special Operations Command and will facilitate the transfer of Caracal helicopters from the 4th Special Forces Helicopter Regiment (4e RHFS) to the 1/67th Pyrenees Squadron of the French Air and Space Force (AAE).
Additionally, NAHEMA and NHIndustries signed a modified development contract for the NH90 TTH to meet the growing demands of French Special Operations Forces.
The acquisition value reaches 305 million euros. Previously, in 2020, France ordered ten NH90 TTH helicopters for its Special Forces Operations.
