GA-ASI's Low-Maintenance HFE 2.0 Engine to Pass Tests

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has completed the final qualification test for its new Low-Maintenance heavy-fuel HFE 2.0 engine.

The Heavy Fuel Engine (HFE) 2.0 is a low-maintenance engine that offers a 40 per cent enhancement in service life. This enhancement translates into prolonged maintenance-free working intervals, which can result in significant operational cost savings and reduced downtime.

The extended service intervals of the HFE 2.0 will likely improve overall fleet availability for operators, especially for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) deployed in continuous or high-tempo operations. Reducing maintenance requirements could translate into cost savings for military and commercial users, freeing resources for other operational needs.

The new engine will provide power to Gray Eagle 25M UAS for Multi-Domain Operations (MDO).
