Indonesian Air Force has shown interest in Republic of Korean LIG Nex1’s KGGB winged GPS guidance kit for Mk-82 GPBs following the Thailand-Cambodia conflict.
Indonesian sources reported to Janes that the recent deployment of KGGB during the Thailand-Cambodia conflict has led to a request for the presentation of the winged guidance kit to the manufacturer LIG Nex1.
A Thai F-16 was seen with a Mk-82 bomb fitted with the kit, confirming the first-ever combat deployment earlier this year, according to Defence Security Asia’s report.
Indonesian F-16s can use this munition, as well as the future KAI KF-21 fighter jets to be delivered.
KGGB’s notable features are its dual-mode flight control system and its employment of flaperons, which provide both pitch and yaw control instead of tail control surfaces.
The flight modes consist of a circular mode, where the bomb can loiter around the target for optimal approach and a waypoint mode, in which specific coordinates are followed. The flaperons mentioned earlier allow the former to be executed efficiently, as the loitering motion requires significant authority on roll.
