Israel will acquire Heavy-Duty Tank Trailers with FMS for an estimated cost of $164.6 million. Deliveries should commence in 2027.
The State Department has approved a prospective Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Israel of Heavy Duty Tank Trailers (HDTT) and related equipment worth an estimated $164.6 million. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) provided the necessary certification informing Congress of the probable sale.
DSCA has not mentioned how many HDTTs Israel will acquire. This also hides the price of each unit. It also indicates that Israel has requested these HDTTs to supplement a previously established instance whose value was less than the congressional notification requirement.
The original FMS case, worth $40.1 million, contained HDTTs, spare and repair parts, tool kits, driver tools, corrosion protection, publications, and technical paperwork. This notification applies to both the items in the original case and the extra HDTTs. The anticipated overall cost is $164.6 million.
Leonardo DRS, based in Arlington, VA, will be the prime contractor.
The HDTT systems are designed to carry above seventy tons of payload across varied terrain.
According to Leonardo’s press release in May 2020, the company will manufacture 60 HDTTs for the U.S. Army with an initial value of $12.2 million. This indicates that the average price per unit is approximately $203,333. This calculation leads to the assumption that Israel might be acquiring 810 units.
