Leonardo stated that Italy will purchase 24 Eurofighter jets for its air force after the chiefs of Eurofighter and NETMA signed the contract.
The statement comes after the business signed a contract for 25 Eurofighters for the Spanish Air Force’s Halcon II programme last Friday. The new Italian Eurofighter Typhoon jets will replace the existing Italian Tranche 1 variants in service.

Giancarlo Mezzanatto, Chief Executive of Eurofighter, stated, “During the last seven days, we have seen two of the four Eurofighter Core Nations sign new contract orders, demonstrating a clear desire to modernise their Air Forces and confirming the critical role they attribute to our aircraft.”
AVM Simon Ellard (ret.), The General Manager of NETMA stated: “The order will strengthen the Italian Air Force’s combat air capabilities while also providing security for Italy, Europe, and the NATO Alliance. The order, which follows the signing of a contract for 25 additional jets for the Spanish Air Force on December 20th, proves that the Eurofighter Typhoon remains the backbone of European air defence.
Turkiye’s desire to acquire up to 40 Eurofighters is expected to be finalised soon. Turkiye’s request to acquire these aircraft is likewise viewed as strengthening NATO.
