KGK-84 winged guidance kit, developed for Mk-84 2000 lb bombs, successfully hit the defined target at sea by following waypoints during its test from an F-16.
The heaviest member of the KGK family, KGK-84, completed its first drop test involving a target successfully. The test munition fitted with what appears to be a pitot tube for measurements at the nose was dropped by an F-16 fighter.
So far, the KGK family has consisted of KGK-82 and KGK-83 for 500 lb Mk-82 and 1000 lb Mk-83 bombs, with the options for Mk-84 bombs as LGK and HGK. However, this has changed with two new kits, and KGK-84 is one of them.
KGK-84 will allow the use of the Mk-84 2000 lb general purpose bombs from long range (100+ km), with the flexibility of going through waypoints. In addition to general-purpose 2000 lb bombs, alternative bombs of the same weight, such as TÜBİTAK SAGE’s NEB/NEB-T shaped charge bunker buster bomb and the newer bombs from the Turkish MoD R&D department, NEB-1/2 HAYALET hardcase bunker busters, and GAZAP enhanced blast effect bombs.
