Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) prepared a 980 billion won (US$732 million) development project for the unmanned aircraft in 2006 called KUS-FS strategic medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) UAV. Two prototypes have been built, and the second prototype includes improved avionics and internal mission systems for ISR missions on targets deep inside North Korea.

Defence Project Promotion Committee approved the mass production of UAVs.
DAPA expects the aircraft to allow intelligence gathering and surveillance and provide the groundwork for developing the country’s unmanned aircraft projects.
