Estonia-based Milrem unveiled the fire support configuration of Type X heavyweight tracked UGV, fitted with eight MBDA AKERON LP NLOS anti-tank missiles.
Forcesoperations reported that the new configuration of Type X has performed a demonstration for the EU’s MARSEUS programme. The programme aims to develop fire support vehicles with the capability to fire various non-line of sight (NLOS) missiles.
The launcher is fitted with eight launchers (4x2) for AKERON LP missiles and RFHunter passive RF sensor to map the transmissions in the area surrounding the vehicle.
Type X
Type X is the first heavyweight UGV in Milrem’s line, as a follow-up to the medium THeMIS UGV with far greater armament capacity. The UGV can be equipped with 30 mm turrets, loitering munitions, mine-clearing equipment, and minelaying launchers.
Hybrid-electric powerpack allows for a speed of 80 km/h, slightly faster than modern main battle tanks.
AKERON LP
AKERON LP is a new generation anti-tank missile from MBDA, using a triple-mode seeker incorporating IIR, TV, and laser sensors. The missile with optimised glide performance can reach a range of more than 8 km when launched from the surface. Guidance is available in
