Italian aerospace firm Piaggio, recently acquired by Baykar, announced that a preliminary contract was signed to transfer business complexes.
Baykar will present its plans for the business complexes to be transferred in the coming weeks. The Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy authorized the contract a month prior.
The transaction’s closing is expected in spring 2025 once conditions are met, including authorization from the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
Piaggio Aerospace is known for manufacturing the P.180 Avanti lightweight commercial aircraft and PP1H UCAV based on the Avanti platform and providing MRO services for various aircraft engines. Some of these engines include turboprop engines and F-35’s F135 turbofan engine.
Piaggio's acquisition by Baykar is not the only development in Turkish-Italian defence cooperation. Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani stated that Leonardo’s various payloads and Baykar’s platforms can be combined to create new UAV/UCAV market solutions. Cingolani added that talks are ongoing for the possible Baykar-Leonardo cooperation.
