RAF: Eurofighter Completes ECRS Mk2 Radar Ground Tests

Royal Air Force (RAF) stated that the Eurofighter Typhoon had reached another milestone; the ECRS Mk2 ground-based tests were completed. RAF recently declared that ground-based testing of a Eurofighter Typhoon with the latest European Common Radar System (ECRS) Mk2 radar had been successfully concluded. The announcement came before the Farnborough International Airshow began.

The radar was transported to the BAE Systems premises in April 2023. The UK Ministry of Defence’s procurement department, Defence Equipment and Support has commissioned a radar system to enhance the capabilities of 40 Tranche 3-standard Typhoon aircraft in the Royal Air Force fleet. This investment, amounting to £2.35bn ($2.98bn), includes the installation of ECRS Mk2 radars, which will directly support RAF operations.

The MK2 can perform conventional radar operations, including search and targeting and electronic warfare missions. Consequently, this technology will enable pilots to neutralise hostile air defences by employing powerful jamming techniques and attack targets from a safe distance beyond the range of potential dangers.
