Textron’s Ripsaw 3 UGV has won the U.S. Army’s Robotic Combat Vehicle-(RCV) competition after racing against Oshkosh Defence, GDLS, and McQ’s prototypes.

U.S. Army sources speaking to Breaking Defense before the conclusion of the competition at the end of March 2025 stated that Textron’s prototype was picked. The prototypes were delivered to the U.S. Army in October 2024.

Originally, the competition consisted of RCV-L (In which Ripsaw 3 participated) and RCV-M sections. RCV-M was reserved for medium-weight class UGVs that can be fitted with autocannons used by IFVs, and again, Textron was picked with its Ripsaw M5 prototype before the exclusion.

After the official announcement of the winner, the U.S. Army will work on the CONOPS, including subjects of autonomy level and weaponry.

Ripsaw 3 prototype is offered with an RCWS carrying a 30x113 mm M230LF chain gun and two FGM-148 Javelin ATGMs. However, the initial batch might have watered-down equipment compared to this to make initial testing and development go smoother.
