The Slovak Defence Ministry signed on November 10th a Letter of Intent to initiate the process of purchasing Embraer C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. The Slovak Ministry of Defense will start procuring the three Brazilian-made aircraft in January 2025 for the Slovak Air Force.
During a visit to Brazil, Slovak Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák emphasized that the C-390M is the most suitable for Slovakia's future military transportation needs.
With this decision, Slovakia officially becomes the seventh European country to choose the C-390, following Portugal, Hungary, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
The C-390M is a twin-engine jet tactical military transport aircraft. The aircraft can fly at a maximum speed of 988 km/h, an altitude of up to 11,000 m, and a ferry range of 6,240 km. This aircraft can carry a payload of 26 tons or 80 troops, or 66 paratroopers.
