Sweden Sings LoI with Brasil to Acquire C-390

Swedish and Brazilian Defence Ministers signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to acquire C-390 transport aircraft for the Swedish Armed Forces.

Swedish Defence Ministry announced that two defence ministers met in Brazil and signed a letter of intent regarding expanded cooperation in the aviation area. The letter of intent means the process begins to acquire the C-390 as a new military transport aircraft for the Swedish Armed Forces.

“This means we can take a long-awaited step and begin the process of replacing our current transport aircraft with the C-390 aircraft system. Now we can begin the work to ensure the operational need for a long-term tactical transport aviation capability”, says the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström.

The armed forces’ current military transport aircraft, the TP 84 Hercules, is old and has accessibility problems. The aircraft has served the Armed Forces for over 50 years, and the process of replacing the system has been ongoing for a long time.

The C-390 air system is manufactured by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. It is a medium-haul tactical transport aircraft with a capacity to carry 80 passengers or a load of 26 tonnes.
