Turkiye Considers Acquiring RAF's Second-Hand C-130

The Turkish Air Force is planning to procure transport aircraft to meet its air transportation needs. According to information obtained by TurDef, significant progress has been made in this regard with the United Kingdom. The aircraft to be purchased to meet the needs of the Turkish Air Force have been reflected in public opinion for various reasons.

According to information obtained by TurDef, the priority of the Air Force is the various types of C-130 Hercules aircraft in the possession of the Royal Air Force. Although the transport capacity of these aircraft is not greater than alternative aircraft, their maintenance and logistics costs are much lower, and the flight hours of the aircraft in question are also low. Authorities noted that the United Kingdom is also very close to cooperation in this regard.

Royal Air Force has 25 Hercules in the inventory. In 1994, an order was made for ten regular C-130Js (C Mk 5) and fifteen extended C-130J-30 Hercules (C Mk 4), with the first arriving at RAF Lyneham in 1998. The last of the original Mk 1 aircraft retired in October 2013, and the fleet was relocated to RaF Brize Norton.
