ASELSAN Completes YILDIRIM 100 DIRCM’s Tests for Helicopters TurDef

ASELSAN shared the test footage of YILDIRIM 100 Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) set to be integrated on helicopters against various MANPADS threats.

Demonstration of YILDIRIM 100 against MANPADS missiles, which represent the greatest threat to helicopters, marks an important progress in not only upgrading the survivability of helicopters as a follow-up to the HEWS.

Whereas HEWS uses sensory information gathered from missile warning and RF receivers and utilises jammers or dispensed countermeasures, YILDIRIM 100 uses small laser turrets also directed by warning systems to jam the infrared seekers by sending out beams, causing a loss of guidance.

YILDIRIM 100 is capable of tracking and jamming multiple incoming missiles with a dual-turret layout. The multi-band laser provides effectiveness against MANPADS of different types, as seen in the test.

YILDIRIM 300 for KAAN Fighter

YILDIRIM family of DIRCMs will not only be present on helicopters but also KAAN fighter as a part of the Integrated Electro-Optical System (IEOS). YILDIM 300 variant for KAAN is expected to have a higher power output to blind a broader variety of seekers (Such as those used by air-to-air missiles) and possibly faster reaction time. Thus, the demonstration of YILDIRIM 100 is an important step towards the formation of KAAN’s self-protection suite.
