Baykar displayed its lineup of runway-based K2 and Sivrisinek kamikaze UAVs capable of reaching long ranges and acting as swarms.
The demonstration from Baykar featured 5 K2s, 10 Sivrisinek, 1 Bayraktar TB2, 1 Bayraktar TB3, and 1 AKINCI flying in coordination. K2 and Sivrisinek demonstrated autonomous navigation and strike capabilities with loiters and simulated dives during the test.
Both K2 and Sivrisinek will make their exhibition debuts at SAHA EXPO 2026 to be held between 5-9 May 2026.
Sivrisinek Becomes Officially Unveiled
Sivrisinek (Mosquito) has been spotted in multiple countries, such as Pakistan, Ukraine, and Albania, years prior to its official unveiling. While it was known to be made by Baykar, its name was not known due to Baykar not officially making a statement on it.
The test shows a larger pack than K2’s, with 10 units moving in coordination thanks to AI-supported swarm capability. MOSQUITO is stated to be able to reach a range of 1000 km, which indicates an endurance of at least nine hours based on the speed seen in the test footage.
Sivrisinek is the spiritual predecessor to K2 as a smaller platform, still employing the simple runway-based configuration. The kamikaze UAV is fitted with a trainable EO system for target acquisition and is powered by a gasoline engine.
K2 Uses BG160 EO System
K2 is seen to use the BG160 EO system located at the nose, which is also developed by Baykar and used on KALKAN VTOL UAV. BG160 unveiled in SAHA EXPO 2024 is available in day and thermal configurations. It can be said that a simpler EO/IR compared to the ones used by Bayraktar TB2 is a major contributing factor in reducing the costs.
