Baykar displayed its BG-160, BG-180, BG-220, and BG-460 electro-optical gimbals for its UAV/UCAV platforms during SAHA EXPO 2024.
BG-160, BG-180, and BG-220 have been developed for Baykar's KALKAN VTOL UAV, while the much larger BG-460 is aimed towards Bayraktar TB2, Bayraktar TB3, and AKINCI. The software and optical components belong to Baykar, which blocks another way for embargoes to hit possible sales.
BG-160, weighing 2.4 kg, was developed in the day and thermal configurations with 1920x1080 and 640x512 px resolutions, respectively. The thermal configuration was created in response to a request from Turkish Special Forces.
Both versions of BG-160 feature a laser rangefinder with a range of three kilometres, a designator, and a coordinate feed to assist artillery units.
BG-180 day electro-optic with a weight of four kilograms has increased laser designation range to five kilometres.
The BG-220, weighing about 7 kg, is the most capable option for KALKAN DİHA, carrying day and MWIR optics simultaneously. The laser designation range is also longer, at seven kilometres.
BG-460, which weighs 75 kg, incorporates narrow and wide cameras at 1920x1080 px resolution for different observation needs and an MWIR camera at 1280x1024 px resolution. The laser designator's range is rated at 20 km. BG-460's integration work on AKINCI and ground tests are ongoing.
