RNZAF’s three remaining P-8 aircraft are all near completion of production and will be delivered in 2023. The aircraft will replace in a deal worth NZ $2.346 billion ($1.5 billion) to replace its six ageing P-3K2 Orion since the 1960s. The long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft is capable of broad-area, maritime and littoral operations. The Boeing P-8A Poseidon is a maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft developed for the United States Navy (USN). The aircraft is a derivative of a civilian Boeing 737-800 passenger aircraft.
