Brazil launched its second Tamandaré-class frigate, F201 Jerônimo de Albuquerque, at Itajaí after five hours; outfitting begins to secure the Blue Amazon.
Brazilian Navy launched its second Tamandaré-class frigate, Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201), in Itajaí on 26 August. The ship will now undergo outfitting and trials before commissioning.
The vessel was moved onto a floating dock at 09:00, which was then submerged in a controlled operation. By 14:00, after nearly five hours of manoeuvres, the ship was securely moored at the quay.

Although the official launching ceremony had already taken place on 8 August, attended by senior civilian and military officials, this week’s operation completed the ship’s transfer to water. The ship’s sponsor, Lu Alckmin — wife of Brazil’s vice president — christened the frigate in line with naval tradition.
Named after Jerônimo de Albuquerque, the first Brazilian-born commander of a naval fleet, the frigate is designed to safeguard the 5.7 million km² of Brazil’s “Blue Amazon” maritime domain. Equipped with advanced combat systems, the ship will play a key role in strengthening the operational capabilities of the Brazilian Navy
