Erdemir to Provide Steel for MUGEM Aircraft Carrier TurDef

OYAK subsidiary Erdemir will provide structural steel for the Turkish Navy’s future STOBAR aircraft carrier MUGEM, with the first batch of plates delivered.

OYAK announced that 40000 tonnes of structural steel will be supplied to Sedef and Sefine shipyards for the construction of the MUGEM aircraft carrier, which will have a total weight of 60000 tonnes by its subsidiary Erdemir.

OYAK also stated that the first batch of steel sheets was delivered as of January 2026, as the construction work was launched at the beginning of 2025.

MUGEM is being built as a STOBAR aircraft carrier to operate a vast array of fixed-wing unmanned and manned aircraft, including naval adaptations of KIZILELMA unmanned fighter, ANKA-III stealth UCAV, and HÜRJET LCA, as well as the purpose-built Bayraktar TB3 UCAV.

Alongside its aviation capabilities, MUGEM will also have a considerable sensor and weapons load. The ship will be fitted with 32 MİDLAS VLS cells and four GÖKDENİZ CIWS for self-defence at different ranges and a comprehensive radar suite.

Miilux OY as a Contributor to Submarine Construction

Another subsidiary of OYAK, Miilux OY, is ready to provide submarine-grade steel with profiling, which it presented during IDEF2025. Establishment of an indigenous supply chain for the construction can be regarded as another important subject for the MİLDEN submarine programme and onwards, alongside the development of sensors, weapons, and command-control systems.
