Baykar's space subsidiary, Fergani, will launch the first satellite of Turkiye's GNSS constellation this year.
Speaking to TRT News during TEKNOFEST 2024, Baykar CTO Selçuk Bayraktar stated that Fergani has produced two GNSS satellites, and the first one will be launched soon this year with a small delay.
Fergani plans to create a Turkish GNSS satellite constellation with 100 satellites to establish independence in navigation capabilities. This is important for both civilian and military sectors, as there is more control over the system compared to foreign alternatives.
For the military sector, the imminent launch of Fergani's GNSS satellite is a game-changer, enhancing global navigation capability and thereby strengthening the backbone of mission planning, targeting, and mobilisation.
Alternatively, using Fergani's GNSS alongside others can contribute to accuracy, as some commercial navigation services exemplify. It should also be noted that Baykar's subsidiary's work isn't limited to GNSS satellites. The firm is also developing transport vehicles to carry space platforms to new orbits.
