Gölcük Shipyard Begins Test Block Construction for MİLDEN TurDef

The Turkish Ministry of Defence announced that the construction of the first test block for the MİLDEN submarine has started in Gölcük Naval Shipyard.

The weekly press briefing from the Turkish MoD announced another milestone for the MİLDEN submarine programme, the construction of the first test block.

MİLDEN is the first submarine to be designed and built in Turkiye, as a larger and more capable follow-up to the Reis-class submarines based on the Type 214 design. The submarine, expected to use AIP propulsion, thanks to its larger size, will feature a longer range and larger weapons capacity. In addition to more space for torpedoes/missiles in the munitions compartment, the submarine will also be the first type in the Turkish Navy to incorporate VLS to launch land attack/anti-ship missiles of various types, including ATMACA, GEZGİN, and TAYFUN SRBM.

In addition to the MİLDEN milestone, the briefing stated that Aydın-class MCMVs will receive a sonar upgrade from YALTES, which covers optimisations on Thales S2093 NB sonar’s detection and classification capabilities.
