Shield AI announced an additional order for its V-BAT tail-sitter VTOL UAV from Greece for Hellenic Army use, with the focus on Maritime Domain Awareness.
The Hellenic Army is expanding its V-BAT VTOL UAV fleet for maritime surveillance from shore locations. The additional order came not long after Greece’s acquisition of the UAV.
In addition to warships, Greece has started utilising UAVs to expand its maritime surveillance coverage over the course of the past few years.
V-BAT is a tail sitter type VTOL UAV powered by a ducted fan piston engine, capable of 12 hours of endurance and shipborne takeoff/landing. The UAV carries an EO/IR gimbal for use in ISR missions, but can also be fitted with an SAR. Shield AI is also working on munition integration with the ROK’s LIGNex1, which will provide the L-MDM laser-guided missile.
