HHI Delivers First KDX-III Batch II Destroyer to ROKN

ROK Navy has received the first KDX-III Batch II destroyer, ROKS Jeongjo the Great.

The follow-up to the Sejong the Great (KDX-III Batch I) AEGIS-equipped destroyers includes a higher percentage of Korean-made systems like the K-VLS I and K-VLS II to launch L-SAM long-range air defence missiles, K-SAAM short-range air defence missiles, Hyunmoo-III cruise missiles, K-ASROC anti-submarine missiles, and Hyunmoo IV-2 ballistic missiles. 48 K-VLS I and 16 K-VLS II are carried per ship.

The second batch will consist of three ships, like the first batch, making a total of six AEGIS-equipped destroyers for the ROKN.

Following KDX-III Batch II, ROK is planning for KDDX destroyers featuring increased autonomy to reduce crew requirements and an increased share of local components.
