Istanbul Shipyard presented its Multirole Support Ship (MRSS) to the Malaysian Navy’s procurement programme, including three ships for amphibious operations.
The Royal Malaysian Navy’s MRSS procurement is a part of the standardisation effort, which aims to acquire new warships and reduce the diversity in the inventory.
The MRSS procurement aims for large-sized ships with amphibious operation and helicopter capabilities. Various countries have sent their proposals, including France (Mistral LHD), China (Type 075 LHD), ROK (HDL 13000 LPD), Turkiye (TAIS LPD), and Indonesia (Makassar-class LPD).
Istanbul Shipyard’s proposal has two helicopter ports and a floodable lower hangar for amphibious vehicles/landing craft.
Turkiye and Malaysia’s defence cooperation on naval platforms has taken a significant step with the deal signed for three LMS Batch 2 corvettes based on MİLGEM Ada-class corvettes. The corvettes will use Turkish equipment such as CENK 400-N AESA radar, ATMACA anti-ship missiles, and GÖKDENİZ 35 mm CIWS. STM will be the main contractor.
