Lockheed Martin Goes for JAGM on Surveyor Sail-Driven USV TurDef

Lockheed Martin is planning to integrate the JAGM Quad Launcher on the Surveyor sail-driven USV, known for its frequent use in the Middle East littorals.

The Surveyor USV (Also called Saildrone), which uses an actuated sail for movement instead of propellers and rudders, might gain offensive capabilities through the JAGM Quad Launcher (JQL or M299 VLS) for AGM-179 JAGM missiles. Naval News photographed the scaled model of Surveyor with AGM-179 JAGM, which was presented at the 2026 Surface Navy Association’s national symposium.

The JQL is a modular launcher that can be placed vertically or angled, holding four AGM-179 JAGM missiles and an exhaust assembly. Lockheed Martin has also proposed JQL for patrol boats, Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, JLTV 4x4, and Germany’s Fuchs 6x6 AFV.

Surveyor USV has been frequently used in littorals as an ISR platform due to its long endurance and low signature (thermal and acoustic due to its propulsion layout).

AGM-179 JAGM, due to its range and warhead size, is a match for small vessels/USVs and potentially UAVs, with the latter being demonstrated during a JQL test. Thus, an armed Surveyor USV could be used defensively due to its endurance or offensively in packs thanks to the aforementioned low signature.
