Lockheed Martin is developing CMMT as a low-cost and modular cruise missile for various aircraft, including fighters, bombers, cargo aircraft, and helicopters.
CMMT, or Common Multi-Mission Truck, is being developed as a multi-purpose munition with swappable subsystems (Warhead, non-kinetic payloads, seekers, engine...).
Lockheed Martin plans two variants: one for launch from fixed-wing aircraft, including cargo types (Using a similar launch system to Rapid Dragon), and the other for helicopters.
Observing the features of CMMT, one might see the parallel with the air-launched “remote carrier” concept, which was also designed with low cost and swarming in mind. European countries are developing such systems on varying scales, as well as Turkish TUSAŞ is developing the Süper Şimşek UAV.
These systems are envisioned to act as stand-in jammers and cruise missiles when fitted with warheads and/or seekers, decoys, and scouts for aircraft to lower risks without costly operations.
Lockheed Martin’s narrative for CMMT suggests a heavy emphasis on usage as a munition despite the notion of it being modular to accept various payloads.
