The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) made a written statement about the multi-purpose mission ship they are getting from Turkiye.
On February 11, the government signed an MOU with Turkish shipbuilder Desan Shipyard for the MPMS. The MOU was signed between Home Ministry Secretary-General Awang Alik and the Chairman of Desan Shipyard Cenk Ismail Kaptanoğlu.
The unofficial translation of the statement indicates that the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) is set to receive a new flagship made by Turkiye as a strategic step to strengthen the country's maritime defence and enforcement capabilities.
It is announced that the ship is expected to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2027 and will become an important asset in controlling the country's waters.
The statement reads, "Equipped with sophisticated specifications, the MPMS is capable of operating for 30 days nonstop. It is also equipped with modern assets, namely four fast interceptor boats (FIC) and two unmanned aerial drones (UAV), and also has a helideck, medical facilities, and a detention centre."
The ship will focus on surveillance in the South China Sea, especially in dealing with foreign vessel intrusions and illegal fishing activities and combating cross-border crimes such as smuggling and human trafficking.

Based on the model displayed at the ceremony, the MPMS will be armed with at least three remote weapons stations, a 30mm forward and two 12.7mm ones on the rear hangar, aft and starboard.
