March Contraction in Defence: $ 370 Million

While exports in Turkiye increased in the first three months, the volume contracted in March. The defence industry was also affected by this trend. Exports in March were $ 370 million 654 000. The top three exporting sectors remained unchanged last month. Automotive maintained its leadership among the sectors in March, with exports of $3.2 billion. Chemical materials ranked second with $3 billion, and ready-made clothing ranked third with $1.6 billion. The unit export value was $1.41. Türkiye completed the month of March with exports of $22 billion 578 million. An all-time first-quarter record was broken in exports in January-March with $63.7 billion. Mustafa Gültepe, President of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM), made a written statement to indicate that exports decreased by 4.1 per cent in March, following the records in the first two months. Gültepe emphasized that despite the decrease in March, they closed the first quarter of the year with a 3.6 per cent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.


Turkish Defence and Aviation Industry's exports in March were as follows: March 2024: 370,654,000 USD (26,7 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2023) Total for the first three months of 2024: 1,002,559,000 USD (6,5 per cent decrease compared to 2023) Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB/ Former Defence Industry Agency) announced Turkiye's defence and aerospace industry export targets yearly until 2024. Türkiye did not reach its target of 6 billion dollars in 2023. The first three months of 2024 have been completed. SSB has not published the targets for this year.
