Martial Law in the Republic of Korea

Republic of Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared emergency martial law wrangling over the budget bill.

ROK President Yeol, who lost the last election, ordered martial law. The decision comes as Yoon's People Power Party (UFP) and the main opposition Democratic Party (Minjudang) continue to fight over next year's budget measure. According to local accounts, the military has prohibited legislators from engaging in parliamentary activities.

According to the Yonhap News Agency, they are even prohibited from entering the building. According to the outlet, both the government and opposition parties have promised to block the announcement. Lee Jae-Myung, the leader of the Republic of Korea's biggest opposition party, criticised the move as unlawful. He also invited the public to assemble outside the National Assembly.-
Yoon has been a lame-duck president since the most recent general election, which the opposition won by a landslide.
He was unable to pass the laws he desired. Instead, he had to veto any measures passed by the opposition.

This week, the opposition lowered the budgets proposed by the government and ruling party - and the budget law cannot be overridden.
In the same week, the opposition seeks to impeach cabinet officials, primarily the director of the government audit office, for failing to probe the first lady.
President Yeol addressed the public on television yesterday night, stating that this move was required to protect the country from North Korea while also ensuring free and constitutional order.
