Navantia Begins Second Saudi Corvette at San Fernando TurDef

Navantia has begun work on the second Saudi corvette, just three months after the first, under a contract for three ships, strengthening local industry.

Navantia San Fernando shipyard hosted on March 14th the first steel-cutting ceremony for the second corvette for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) under the new contract signed late last year. This agreement includes three additional corvettes, supplementing the five previously delivered to the RSNF.

The construction of this second unit, launched just three months after the first.

The final ship of this series is scheduled for delivery in 2028. While the first corvette will be completed by Navantia in Spain, the second and third will be assembled and integrated in Saudi Arabia, following the same process as in the previous contract. These final stages will include the installation, integration, and testing of the combat system.

The contract also includes integrated logistics support, crew training, and an operational evaluation phase. The Spanish Navy will conduct evaluations at Rota Naval Base, with Navantia providing support services. As part of the initiative Navantia will also train 100 Saudi engineers.
