The first Project 22350, or Admiral Gorshkov-class frigate for the Russian Pacific Fleet (PF), Admiral Isakov (420), was launched.
Naval News reports that the ship's construction began 11 years ago, and the commission is expected to occur in 2027. Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates are currently the newest surface combatants in the Russian Navy. They have the Redut medium-to-long-range air defence system and the capability to fire the 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles.
Ukraine's halt in the supply of diesel engines for Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates, combined with technical issues with integrating the Redut air defence system, severely impacted the building and fitting of the ships.
The ships are armed with 16/32 (Next four ships) UKSK cold-launch VLS cells for 3M54 Kalibr/P800 Oniks/3M22 Zircon cruise missiles and 32 Redut VLS cells for 9M96M2 or quad-packed 9M100 air defence missiles, surpassing most other surface combatants in the Russian Navy.
The ships' sensor package is equally higher-end with four-faced 5P-20K active phased array searching radars and an extra 5P-27 radar for long-range detection.
Russia might also opt for the Project 22350M destroyer, a scaled-up Project 22350 design with a greater number of VLS cells, more powerful radars, and an estimated displacement of 8,000 tonnes after the loss of the Moskva cruiser. Ukraine sunk the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet using its self-produced R-360 Neptune anti-ship missiles.
