Russia is developing a Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighter jet based on the Su-57 Felon. Russia calls it 6th gen fighter. This was said by United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) CEO Yuri Slyusar to TASS.
"When we talk about the sixth generation, we say that this is no longer a separate plane, but a whole system of interactions between air, space, earth, drones, manned vehicles," said Slyusar.
The Eurasian Times writes that Russia's approach to developing a sixth-generation fighter is similar to that chosen by the US for its NGAD ( Next Generation Air Dominance ) fighter.
Russian approach indicates that countries have different descriptions of sixth-gen aircraft. United Kingdom describes FCAS with AI, for instance.
Tracing back, Russia initiated the concept of the sixth-generation fighter jet in 2016.
At that time, it was reported that the Sukhoi design bureau was developing the aircraft in question. This was conveyed by the then Commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Viktor Bondarev.
Bondarev said the aircraft would be developed in manned and unmanned versions.
Meanwhile, a senior official from Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET), the Rostec subsidiary that developed this particular hardware element, said Russia's sixth-generation fighter jet would be equipped with an integrated electronic warfare system.
The system will function as radar, electronic warfare, data transmission, and communication equipment.
It will also function as a navigation system and a Friend or Foe Identification (IFF) transponder.
