Singapore Launches Its First Unmanned Platform Mothership TurDef

Defense News reported that RSS Victory (88), as the lead ship of the Victory-class Multi-Role Combat Vessels (MRCV), was launched with the attendance of the Minister of Defence Chan Chun Sing.

Deputy Director of the MRCV, Lieutenant Colonel Auyong Kok Phai, stated that MRCV will cover multiple domains with its load of unmanned systems:

“The unmanned systems will be deployed on the MRCV and work in concert to expand the surveillance capabilities around the ship, so that a single MRCV can do the work in the air, surface and sub-surface domains that would require multiple manned ships now.”

MRCV is the successor to the Victory-class MCMVs with a diverse load of unmanned platforms to not only perform MCM missions but also surface/subsurface surveillance. Additionally, the modular design allows for the carriage of multiple shipping containers for secondary missions like disaster relief.

The ship, displacing 8000 tonnes, is powered by an integrated electric propulsion system in which all combustion engines are connected to electric generators powering not only the propellers but also other electrical systems.

Main weaponry for self-defence consists of 32 MBDA Sylver VLS cells capable of launching MICA NG medium-range air defence missiles or Aster 30 Block 1 NT long-range air defence missiles. The ship can also carry the Blue Spear anti-ship missile co-developed with IAI from the Gabriel V.
