STM to Debut New Underwater Platform in SAHA EXPO 2024

The Turkish firm has published a teaser for its new underwater platform appearing to be a UUV to be debuted in the SAHA EXPO 2024 exhibition.

The Turkish firm has published a teaser for its new underwater platform, which appears to be a UUV. It will be debuted at the SAHA EXPO 2024 exhibition.

The promotional video shows a yellow underwater platform with a mast section noticeably backwards, suggesting that it is a UUV.

STM has ambitions for an unmanned submarine, to be developed using the experience gained from existing submarine projects like STM500 and the small-sized SDV personnel delivery vehicle.

This would make STM the fifth Turkish firm to develop UUVs, following Sonitus, ASELSAN, Dearsan, and DATUM. Turkiye's current UUVs range from small to medium-sized ones, but plans exist for large and extra-large classes.

The initial vision for UUVs worldwide is to provide mapping, ISR, and undersea patrol capabilities against submarines, mines, and divers. As the designs get larger, these platforms are expected to become combat-capable with torpedoes and missiles.
