Sweden and Finland will continue NATO negotiations with Turkiye

Sweden and Finland said on Wednesday that the Nordic countries would continue to talk with Turkiye about Ankara’s objections to their NATO membership bids. On Wednesday, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said that the Nordic country would continue its talks with Turkey over Ankara’s objections to Sweden’s NATO membership application. 

“I’m looking forward to constructive meetings with Turkey in the near future,” she said at a news conference with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.“Together with Sweden, we will do our homework and prepare for the questions Turkiye has,” Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto told reporters in Helsinki.Both countries applied to join NATO last month but were met with opposition from Turkiye, which accuses them of providing safe havens for the PKK terrorist organisation and wants them to lift an arms export ban.Sweden and Finland will continue NATO negotiations with Turkiye
