Turkish Coast Guard Gets Its Shipyard in Çanakkale TurDef

Turkish Coast Guard announced the project to build a shipyard with the Directorate General of Coastal Safety in its 2024 annual report.

Another step taken towards expanding the Turkish Coast Guard capabilities was announced as a new shipyard to be set up in Çanakkale, Gelibolu.

The project is being done jointly with the Directorate General of Coastal Safety, which performs search and rescue missions or combat illegal trafficking within the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure structure.

The shipyard construction will be performed in 323498 square meters, with 29089 square meters reserved for the Directorate General of Coastal Safety.

In the same report, the Turkish Coast Guard announced an acquisition of eight new Coast Guard ships, the design work of which will be completed this year. The first ship will be launched in 2027, while the second in 2028.

The new ships will use an indigenous powerplant consisting of diesel engines and generators.
