The Turkish Coast Guard’s annual report for 2024 included the National Coast Guard Ship project to build eight new Coast Guard ships with indigenous powerplants.
The specifications and the image published in the report correspond to ARES Shipyards’ ARES 65 OPV design, which is notable for its capability to carry and deploy ULAQ USVs with the aft ramp and two smaller vessels from side bays.
The report includes information regarding the project’s direction, stating that the ships will be acquired in a 2+6 package. The first ship will be launched in 2027, while the second in 2028. The design will be completed this year.
Another important part of the project is using an all-indigenous powerplant, including diesel engines and generators.
BMC Power has been working on marine versions of its diesel engines for MARLIN USV (LEVEND) and larger vessels (MAVİ BATU). TÜMOSAN is the other marine engine player that has developed the indigenous engine for ULAQ USV.
