Turkiye and Malaysia to Establish Joint Shipyard in Melaka TurDef

Malaysia’s southern state of Melaka to establish a joint shipyard project with Türkiye. The new facility, the Enrique of Malacca Shipyard, will be constructed in cooperation with Turkish shipbuilder Desan Shipyard.

Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh, who was in Türkiye with an official Malaysian delegation, visited Desan Shipyard to discuss the project’s technical scope and commercial framework. According to Malaysia’s state news agency Bernama, Chief Minister Yusoh said the total investment value of the shipyard is expected to reach US$443 million.

The shipyard will be located along Melaka’s coastline. The location provides direct access to the Straits of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes. The facility is intended to support shipbuilding, maintenance and maritime services.

Spanning 9.42 hectares, the project will be developed as a joint venture involving SM-WEZ Corporation, a key entity within Melaka’s special economic zone, Henry The Black Shipyard Sdn Bhd, and Desan Shipyard.

The Enrique of Malacca Shipyard is expected to become operational in 2028.
