Ukraine’s USF announced that a USV-launched interceptor UAV shot down a Geran-2 kamikaze UAV, marking the first sea-based UAV-on-UAV interception in the war.
Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine (USF) announced that the 412th Nemesis Brigade shot down a Russian Geran-2 kamikaze UAV using interceptor UAVs launched from a USV.
The launch of interceptor UAVs from USVs was demonstrated not long ago, with Magura USV as the carrying platform.
It is understood that Ukraine added a sea-based layer to its defences against waves of kamikaze UAVs after the observations of some kamikaze UAVs passing through the Black Sea to stay away from defences in the field.
Ukraine currently lacks warships with capable radars to monitor the Black Sea, which is to be addressed with the commissioning of MİLGEM corvettes from Turkiye that feature a sensor package allowing for surveillance on a wider scale, complementing the fleet of USVs that act locally.
