US Destroyer Zumwalt to Integrate Hypersonic Missiles

The Zumwalt has arrived at HII facilities in Pascagoula, Mississippi, as the shipyard was awarded a $10.5 million modernisation programme in January. This update follows this previous allocation. The US Zumwalt guided-missile destroyer undergoes a crucial phase of modernisation to incorporate the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) hypersonic weapon system.

With a target set for 2025, the Zumwalt is anticipated to be armed and ready with its new hypersonic weaponry.
This modernisation process also includes the guided-missile destroyer Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001). Like the Zumwalt, the Monsoor is expected to incorporate the Conventional Prompt Strike hypersonic missile system in future modernisation phases.
The 16,000-ton warship is armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles, the standard SM-3 and evolved Sea Sparrow missiles.
