The 3rd Littoral Anti-Air Battalion performed live-fire training in the Pohakuloa Training Area with the recently adopted MADIS low-altitude air defence system.
The USMC shared photos of the MADIS Mk1 low-altitude air defence system participating in the event. One of the units is seen firing a FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS from the Kongsberg RS6 RCWS, which also carries the XM914 (M230LF) 30x113 mm chain gun.
The 3rd Littoral Anti-Air Battalion is part of the 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment, primarily operating in the Indo-Pacific. The U.S. has been investing in upgrading its equipment to be put into work in the Indo-Pacific, with the attention being diverted towards China. In this sense, MADIS focuses on countering UAVs and low-flying aircraft to be encountered by the USMC.
MADIS consists of MADIS Mk1 and MADIS Mk2 (Both based on JLTV chassis), focusing on different areas of low-altitude air defence. MADIS Mk1 is the hard-kill effector with Stinger MANPADS and XM914 chain gun, while MADIS Mk2 is a sensor and jammer unit fitted with a 7.62 mm M134 Gatling gun for self-defence.
