Altınay lays foundation for new $50M Technology Campus TurDef

Altınay Technology Group has begun construction of its new Technology Campus in Istanbul’s Tuzla Leather Organised Industrial Zone (Deri OSB). The $50 million investment will serve as a strategic hub for the development and production of advanced motion systems, robotics and related subsystems for industrial and service applications.

Conceived as a cornerstone of Türkiye’s broader goal to enhance global competitiveness in high technology, the Altınay Technology Campus will foster innovation across critical industrial domains. The group aims to consolidate its R&D-driven approach and engineering capability within a single modern complex that will advance the country’s technological self-reliance and export capacity.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Altınay Technology Group Chairman Hakan Altınay reflected on the company’s evolution from a university-based start-up to an international technology player. “What began in a university laboratory 34 years ago has now become a global-scale campus. In the 1990s we dreamed of a $5 million investment; today, that vision has turned into a $50 million Technology Campus. This is not merely a production site—it is a symbol of Türkiye’s determination to achieve technological sovereignty and socio-economic development,” he said.

Altınay recalled founding Türkiye’s first R&D company in 1991 dedicated to national-level robotics technologies, which led to the creation of the country’s first six-axis industrial robot. “In 1994, we introduced the Altınay HSR4 robot to the market. Since then, we have pursued our mission of producing high technology with perseverance and conviction. With our new campus, we are taking this goal to the next level,” he continued.

He added that Altınay intends to develop future-generation robotic systems and human-centred technologies designed to serve both Türkiye and global markets. “We will keep investing in technology for the bright future of our country and our people,” Altınay concluded.

Designed as a 28,000 square-metre high-technology hub, the new campus allocates 16,000 square metres for engineering and R&D activities, while the remaining 12,000 square metres will support production technologies. The facility will integrate all necessary infrastructure for developing and serially manufacturing advanced technology products, combining design, prototyping, testing and industrialisation within one ecosystem.

Once fully operational, the campus will employ around 1,500 people, including 1,200 engineers and researchers, supported by 300 technical specialists in manufacturing. This concentration of talent is expected to accelerate product innovation, expand the company’s export portfolio and create new intellectual property assets for Türkiye’s technology sector.

By focusing on critical motion and robotic systems, Altınay aims to diversify its product range and strengthen the country’s capacity for self-developed solutions. The new facility will enable research on industrial robots as well as humanoid, quadruped and bipedal robotic platforms, opening opportunities for innovation across multiple domains.
