ASELSAN Signs $845M Secure Communications, Space Deal TurDef

ASELSAN [BIST-ASELS] has signed new contracts worth $845 million with the Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB) for public safety communications, satellite and space systems.

The contracts cover the procurement of systems intended to support Türkiye’s public security communications and national satellite and space infrastructure. Deliveries under the agreements are scheduled to begin in 2026, according to ASELSAN’s public disclosure and company announcement.

The new agreements also carry wider significance beyond conventional communications procurement. Secure, sovereign and resilient communication networks are expected to form part of the backbone of Türkiye’s ÇELİKKUBBE (Steel Dome) layered air defence architecture, while also supporting a broader range of public safety and security users.

TurDef understands that the contracts are a component of a wider attempt to lessen reliance on foreign-supplied communications systems. The pager attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon in September 2024 revealed how communication devices and their supply networks might be used as vectors for intelligence operations and sabotage. For Türkiye, secure national communications networks are increasingly viewed not only as an operational requirement but also as a matter of strategic sovereignty, particularly as systems such as ÇELİKKUBBE will depend on uninterrupted and trusted data exchange across multiple sensors and effectors.
