Czech Parliament decided to procure 76 new Leopard-2A8 main battle tanks and 28 second hand Leopard-2A4 MBTs and two Büffel armoured recovery vehicles. Czech Defence writer at social media “Daniel of Bohemia” has written recent development about Leopard tanks. It is claimed that the Defence Committee of the Czech Parliament confirmed the country's intention to proceed with the procurement of 76 new Leopard-2A8 main battle tanks, 28 second-hand Leopard-2A4 main battle tanks and two Büffel armoured recovery vehicles. It should be noted that last December the Czech Republic received 14 second-hand Leopard-2A4s from Germany as donation for the Czech Army's 73rd Tank Battalion. The additional 28 Leopard-2A4s will be acquired in order to form a full squadron.
The Leopard-2A8 retains the L-55 120mm main gun, capable of firing all modern 120mm tank ammunition. The Leopard-2A8 also incorporates a new engine, improved situational awareness and communications systems, and an improved Fire Control System (FCS).
