France Increases Defence Budget

France significantly increased the defence budget for the 2024-2030 term. President Emmanuel Macron announced the step at Mont-de-Marsan Air Base. New finance for military expenditure is determined as 413 billion Euros.

Russian aggression is seen as the main reason for the leap. But it is known that the new budget also reflects rising tensions in Africa and the Pacific. The intelligence budget will be increased by 60%. New generation aircraft carriers will also be built with a new budget as well. France will also enhance air defence and space capabilities in the new term. French Armed Forces will spend more money on protecting overseas territories because of increasing tensions.President Emmanuel Macron said: "The threats are multiple and aggregate rather than follow one another." French media specified the increase as "unprecedented" as well.There have been no known such significant increases after the end of the Cold War for decades. France will spend the budget mainly on transforming and modernising the armed forces. The country also aims to move upmarket to be able to assume coalition command responsibilities, whether with NATO or wherever required.
