Germany Orders Four More Type 212CD AIP Submarines with TKMS TurDef

German Defence Procurement Office BAAINBw has contracted to procure four Type 212CD AIP submarines with TKMS.
Naval News reported that the contract had increased Germany's order size for Type 212CD submarines to six. An additional batch of submarines is part of Germany's €21 billion defence budget.
Norway also plans to expand its order, totalling 12 submarines for both navies.
Type 212CD is a development of the Type 212 AIP submarine for the German and Norwegian navies, which was built by the German shipyard thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).
Compared to Type 212, Type 212CD is significantly larger at 73 meters in length and 2800 tonnes submerged displacement.
The armament capacity has also increased, with eight torpedo tubes (Compared to six on Type 212) and 14 munitions stored in total. The munitions include the 533 mm Common Heavyweight Torpedo (CHWT) and IDAS submarine-to-air/surface missile. A submarine-launched NSM cruise missile is also under evaluation.
