Greece Protests its European Partners due to Turkiye TurDef

The Greek newspaper Kathimerini claimed that Athens is uneasy about the sale of Piaggio Aerospace to Baykar, stating: “Rome ignored European regulation 2019/452, which provides those foreign investments, such as Baykar’s, in companies under state control, must be notified to the other EU member states.”

The issue of the possible sale of Meteor air-to-air missiles by the multinational European consortium MBDA to Turkiye was discussed at the meeting they had last Tuesday on the sidelines of the informal EU summit in Brussels, between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron. According to information, during the phone call with the French president, which took place in a positive atmosphere, the Prime Minister asked to be informed about the developments. Macron confirmed the discussions but stated that reaching an agreement should not be taken for granted. At the same time, Paris makes it clear that the “key” for the possible sale of the missiles is Britain and not France.

Greek Defence Minister Nikolaos Dendias invited the French Ambassador to Athens to his office to protest Turkiye's possible Meteor procurement. Prime Minister Mitsotakis stated on a television program that he was not aware of this protest.
